Book Advent Calendar

The countdown to Christmas is on! Many started their advent calendars last night and we were no different! When my daughter was younger we did the ones with the candy or piece of chocolate inside that told a story once all tabs were open. Last year I started her with the Book Advent Calendar and she has been counting down the days until she gets to open her book.

I love this because every night we get to open up a new gift before bedtime and that's our story for the night. So parents get a break of the same old story that they've read 100 times and the kids are excited about getting a new book each night! My daughter has been on chapter books for awhile now so I always toss in those Monster High or Ever After Books that she carries around with her. But I also put in a few Christmas or winter themed stories in there that she loves!

Plus if you keep this in mind for next year you can be on the lookout for books all year long! Love picking up gently used books while going to yard sales throughout the summer and then pulling them out after Thanksgiving and start wrapping!

You can number them or add them all under the tree in a pile. My daughter likes to pick out while one she opens each day so we don't number them.

If you are reading it and thinking aw man I wish I knew about this sooner it's not too late! Instead of the advent calender why not do the 12 Days of Christmas and give them a book!
